Interested?
Do you sometimes wish you had others around when you write? To keep you motivated or focused? Provide quiet company? Share in the solidarity of the joy (or chore) of writing?
Join us!
Newstead Writers began in early 2023 with informal monthly ‘shut up and write’ sessions at the Newstead Arts Hub.
Now we have a regular group of writers meeting each month, enjoying the experience of dedicated time to write in the (quiet) company of other writers.
All welcome, look forward to seeing you there. Gold coin donation appreciated.
For more information check out the monthly Newstead Echo or Newstead Arts Hub Newsletter and website for latest details of Newstead Writers events and contacts.
How does it work?
Just turn up (at 1pm or whenever you can get there) with your writing gear – notebook, tablet, laptop – and get going on your half-written memoir, play or novel, or perhaps poetry, a uni essay or a project proposal. There are tables and chairs ready to go at the Hub plus coffee, tea and herbals available.
We start with a few minutes of hellos and work out times for breaks (not compulsory) then get into our writing. Finish time is around 5pm, but writers are welcome to start and finish whenever suits them.
“Shut Up and Write sessions create a shared space for quiet, focused writing as well as a chance to catch up with other local writers during scheduled breaks. We offer no judgement on what people are writing or how they write, people share when and if they want. We invite you to join us at the Arts Hub on the 4th Friday of each month.”
